Together Mediation

Our Mediation Process

Expert Guidance When It Matters Most

Clear. Calm. Confidential.

At Together Mediation, we keep things simple and supportive. Whether you’re sorting out child arrangements or financial matters, here’s how the process works — from first contact to final agreement.

Step-by-Step Guide to Mediation

  • Book a MIAM
  • Invite the Other Person to Mediate
  • Begin Mediation Sessions

This is your first, private meeting with a qualified mediator. You'll:

  • Learn about mediation
  • Talk about your situation
  • Decide if mediation is right for you

The MIAM is usually held via online video call, but if that’s not appropriate for you, we’re happy to arrange a confidential phone call instead.

  • Only you and the mediator attend
  • Lasts around 45 minutes
  • If mediation isn’t suitable, we can issue a MIAM certificate so you can apply to court

If you're happy to proceed, we contact the other party to invite them to a MIAM.
They’ll have their own separate meeting, just like you.

  • Participation is voluntary — but strongly encouraged by the courts.

If both people agree to continue, we’ll schedule your first joint mediation session.
We offer:

  • Standard mediation
  • Shuttle mediation (you’re in separate online rooms via Microsoft Teams)

Each session is usually 60–120 minutes. Most people resolve their issues in 1–2 sessions.

  • Child-Inclusive Mediation (if appropriate)
  • Agreement & Next Steps

If both parents agree and it’s suitable, children can speak confidentially with a specially trained mediator. Their voice is then shared in the process — with their consent.

When an agreement is reached, we write a summary (called a Memorandum of Understanding). This can be shared with your solicitor if you’re turning it into a court-approved consent order.

  • We often collaborate with solicitors — mediators help narrow or resolve the issues, and solicitors draft the legal documentation for court.
